Harold Stassen, the perennial Republican candidate, reported 5.80 in campaign funds and 1.20 for postage plus 4.60 for telephone calls as his total Ohio primary expenses. The campaign voucher was filed with Secretary of State Ted W. Brown.
Jefferson Poland, 25, spokesman for the Sexual Freedom League, was arrested after a nude performance before about 150 hippies in Golden Gate Park. He sang sections of the Bible and identified as a minister at booking.
Barry Goldwater told the Florida Air Academy graduates that if peace talks fail and Vietnam returns to battle, the war would be won quickly but with devastation to the enemy. He expressed hope for a peaceful outcome yet remained skeptical of envoy success.
Increasing cloudiness and warmer conditions with scattered showers today high in the 70s. Tonight remains warm with showers and upper 50s to low 60s. Linville Feltner, 29, of Willard, is in fair condition after a stabbing at Pat's Bohemian Beer Garden in Willard. Police say Feltner was stabbed by Tommy Slone, 26, of Maple Ridge Road, who faces a $2,000 cash bond or $4,000 property bond after pleading not guilty in Huron County Common Pleas Court. A court appointment for an attorney was expected Monday.
Edith Baumann, 26, the sole woman among 34 contestants, begins a perilous 3000 mile voyage to Newport Rhode Island in a trimaran. She carries six months of food and her dog Schatz, amid boats from 19 to 60 feet and routes from 3130 to 4200 miles. World-wide entrants include the United States.
Willard High School surprised 162 graduates by naming valedictorian Vicki Roose and salutatorian Diane Slessman at diploma ceremony. Roose, daughter of Arlen and, has a 3.66 four year average and works in the cooperative education program. Slessman, daughter of Duane and, carries a 3.65 average and will study math at Bowling Green University.
Wesley Ritchey a New London High School teacher and coach charged with trespassing and assault and battery pleaded not guilty in Huron County Common Pleas Court. Bond set at 500 cash or 1000 property for assault and battery and 100 for trespass.
The Huron County Department of Public Welfare moves toward a Food Stamp Program in Huron County with Banks as sales agents. The program, run with the U S Department of Agriculture and Ohio Welfare, targets low income families and will allow stamps for American produced foods in local grocers. A June 6 meeting with bank officials will explain the program and set sales terms.
