Thant Brezhnev talk on Viet Nam peace plan in Moscow

U Thant discussed a compromise Viet Nam peace plan and his potential second term with Leonid Brezhnev in Brezhnev's Moscow office. Soviet promises of support were reported, with no announcement expected before late August.

Put-In-Bay Woman Donates $50 To Aid 16-Year-Old Mother

A Norwalk poverty surveyor received a $50 check from a Put-In-Bay resident intended to buy a new skirt and blouse for a 16-year-old Celeryville girl, who has cared for her father and two brothers since her mother's death. The donor asked that remaining funds fund gift packs for other families aided by the Erie-Huron County Action Committee.

County to War on Dumps central landfill plan announced

Huron County commissioners declared war on open dumps and outlined a county landfill program. A Site and Finance Committee was named to report in 30 days with a plan to locate three sites and finance it, possibly via franchise contracts to lower costs.

Jury Awards $50,000 In Land Case

A jury awarded Raymond W. and Aileen J. Flanagan $50,000 in an appropriation suit by Northern Ohio Telephone Co. The verdict after two days of testimony split $6,000 for land and $44,000 for buildings for property behind the Norwalk exchange on South Hester Street.

The Reflector doubles the top prize for its Beatle tickets contest to two box seats for the August 14 Cleveland show. The age limit stays 12 to 18 and entries must be mailed or delivered by noon August 8. Winners announced August 10 after a three judge panel reviews essays.

Willard to vote on charter system change

Willard residents will decide this November whether to keep the charter city manager system or switch to a mayor council form under state statutes. Clerk Eugene McEndree certified a petition meeting the 10 percent signature requirement to place the issue on the ballot. The 1962 gubernatorial vote count shows 1,530 electors, establishing 153 signatures as the minimum.

Hospital Faces 10000 Suit Over Fall At City Hospital

A $10,000 suit filed by Marguerite Davies in Huron County Common Pleas Court names the City of Willard as operator of Willard Municipal Hospital and alleges negligent use of a wheeled stretcher. She says her husband Harold Davies suffered a heart attack June 18 1960 and was injured when a wheel detached from a bed on wheels while being moved down a ramp by hospital employee David Morris, causing the stretcher and husband to fall on her, injuring her ankle.

Sniper scare delays Wilson at White House talks

A reported sighting near Blair House prompted a 15 minute delay for Prime Minister Harold Wilson at a White House meeting with President Johnson. A British spokesman said the man carried what appeared to be a wrapped rifle but searches found no weapon or suspect.
