Ohio Direct Loan Plan Aids Industrial Expansion
Ohio opens a direct industrial loan program through the Ohio Development Financing Commission to assist existing firms in expansion and R&D. Gilford Instrument Laboratories in Oberlin received a 576,900 loan for a 40,000 square foot expansion and 175 new jobs, with 30 percent state financing at 2 percent for 12 years. The program, funded by a $5 million appropriation, aims to spur capital for mid-sized industries, complementing the state’s tax-free development bonds and raising concerns about a patrol investigation into prior loan guarantees.

The schedule relies on NRC permits and an operating license by 1985 for Unit I and 1987 for Unit II.
