Eight student nurses were killed in a Chicago duplex in a brutal attack. A survivor cried out. two men were arrested in Indiana as police sought the killer, described as tall and young. Victims hailed from the Philippines and Illinois towns. authorities described the scene as savage and bloody.
Allen Shankman announced his resignation from the Norwalk Park and Recreation Board to Mayor Harold E. Finch citing pressing business obligations. He had served as president since January and earlier shifted to vice president on March 9. Other members include Robert Mason and Thurman J. Peabody.
Walter Kuhlman of Corwin Street near Woodlawn woke to the storm Tuesday morning and set a recorder to capture it on tape. A nearby lightning strike and a colossal crash followed as he played back the recording. Wednesday evening a neighbor woman went to her clothesline to take down the wash, likely due to the storm heard on the recording.
Farmers suffering losses from heavy rain and hail may qualify for emergency loans from the Farmers Home Administration. State director James T. McDorman said loans are available in affected counties and guidance is being gathered to cover other counties. Eligibility is set by the local FHA county committee.

Herman Phillip Becker a Norwalk businessman and former city councilman died Wednesday at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He founded the H P Becker Potato Chip Co which operated from 1925 to 1957. Survived by his wife Mary two sons Richard and Robert eight grandchildren a brother and a sister. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kubach Smith Funeral Home with burial in Sand Hill Cemetery Castalia.
Ward and Schneider Architects of Cleveland won the EHOVE Board selection to design a tri county vocational school. They have built Norwalk Junior High and several Ohio high schools and may involve consultant W K Dutton. The firm plans a single story open classroom concept with a 6.6 percent fee if Dutton is retained.
