Judge orders schools to recognize black English dialect
A federal judge in Ann Arbor ordered the city schools to acknowledge black English spoken by low income black children in reading instruction. The 43 page ruling says the dialect is not a barrier by itself but becomes one when teachers ignore it. The district has 30 days to draft a plan guiding teachers to identify and address black English in teaching standard English.

Australians find large Skylab piece in outback near Rawlinna
Three Australians led by Bill Norton found a 6 by 3 foot cylindrical Skylab fragment stamped 102 in the Rawlinna area six miles south of town. They hauled it on a trailer, reported the discovery to State Emergency Services, and said they might sell the piece. The incident follows criticism in an Australian newspaper of U.S. space officials for aiming Skylab at Australia.
