Family Child Problems Soaring In Huron County Complex
Judge Thomas FE Heydinger describes a doubling of juvenile court complaints in Huron County, driven by complex child psychology and family relations. New reporting laws, increased divorces, and extended families’ breakdown are cited as factors, with 40 complaints in 1977 versus 20 in 1976. The court seeks foster homes, noting 24 licensed placements and a need for more community involvement. Reach Our Youth volunteers are being recruited to provide guidance to youths through agencies, aiming to ease caseloads long term. The 1977 juvenile court handled 1,377 cases, up 1.5 percent from 1976, with 968 total complaints and 528 traffic cases, the most common being theft. 71 docketed cases show a drop from 131 in 1976.
