Fisher-Titus joins Ohio effort to curb hospital costs
Norwalk's Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital administrator Richard Westhofen says the hospital has joined the Ohio Voluntary Effort on Health Care Costs, one of about 120 Ohio hospitals certified to participate. He notes hospitals are pooling buying power and shopping for best prices, including lower telephone service bids for the Morse wing. The hospital, funded partly by Blue Cross and government programs, has reduced average patient stay from 12 days a decade ago to 5.1 days last year, with cost savings aimed at expanding outpatient care through the $3 million Morse wing financed mainly by the Morse donation.
