Deserting Fathers Surface as Major Welfare Challenge
Huron County Welfare Dept director Grant Walls told Norwalk Kiwanis the main issue is fathers deserting families and failing to pay support. Aid for the Aged tops expenditures at about 400000 annually with 289 cases, average 65 dollars monthly. The dept handles 1500 cases with 10 workers and 2 supervisors. four fraud cases occurred, one brought to a grand jury.
