Secretary Orville Freeman and a helicopter crew were targeted by Viet Cong snipers in the Mekong Delta. The Huey came under tracer fire but suffered no injuries as Freeman continued his swing through the area.
Blue Cross of Northeast Ohio paid 21 580 dollars in hospital bills for former Cleveland resident Mike Kasperak America's first adult heart transplant patient. He had worked for Jones & Laughlin Steel Co. and moved to California last year. Kasperak underwent the operation at Stanford University Medical Center last January and died two weeks after admission. Hospital stays averaged 1350 dollars per day.
President Johnson and Mrs. Johnson depart for Hemisfair in San Antonio for a Fourth of July celebration and will attend a weekend Central American summit in El Salvador. A delegation of about 40 ambassadors and their wives accompanies them, with departure around noon EDT.
FAA spokesman Irving Rippsa said there is no way to stop a gunman from hijacking a passenger jet to Cuba. Congressmen criticized the government after Monday's Northwest Orient DC8 was diverted to Havana, the fifth such incident this year.

A land appropriation suit for temporary right of way during the Route 18 Norwalk Bypass construction was filed in Huron County Common Pleas Court. The case involves land owned by Louise Linder. Filed for the Ohio Attorney General's office by Warren Ruggles, Norwalk attorney and assistant attorney general.
Captain Joseph Tosolini, pilot of a US airliner carrying 231 Americans, says a Soviet MIG fired machine guns to force a landing on Iturup Island in the Kuriles. He denies violating Soviet air space, while acknowledging signing a Soviet statement to secure the passengers' release. Passengers, mostly Vietnam-bound servicemen, were unharmed and treated well during captivity.
Norwalk businessman John Henry Wickert aged 43 suffered head lacerations and minor injuries when his car blew a tire on the turnpike two miles east of Interchange 10, rolled over, and ended in an embankment. He was treated at Berea Community Hospital and listed in fair condition. Wickert owns the Card and Gift Shop in Norwalk and is developing a new Gift Gallery.
Light at Greenwich Milan Townline Road and Route 250 was turned on for one night despite a June 17 township ruling to shade it. Residents want the light on while two nearby property owners push for it off. Ohio Edison may provide a shade or design one if possible.
Mayor Harold Finch reports Norwalk June construction costs at $194 000 including $112 000 for a new A P Store at 117 Whittlesey Avenue and repairs to Larries Beauty Shop at $2 000. Two new residences and several improvements are listed with individual values.
