Mrs Martha Baird Rockefeller, 75, widow of John D. Rockefeller Jr., died Sunday at her Manhattan home from an occlusive coronary. She was stepmother to John D. Rockefeller III Nelson A. Rockefeller Laurence Rockefeller Winthrop Rockefeller former Arkansas governor David Rockefeller and sister to Mrs Jean Mauze.
Elizabeth Taylor 39 will become a grandmother this August as her son Michael Wilding and his wife Beth expect a child. In Los Angeles, the Tate LaBianca murder jury enters its ninth day of deliberations on Charles Manson and three followers, with no verdict yet.
In Cincinnati a 16 year old high school student Steve Howarth died from a fractured skull after a baseball bat was brandished from a car window last Thursday. He was waiting near Courter Tech High School when struck by one of four or five youths in the car. Police have no suspects.
About 65 guards at Ohio Penitentiary walked out sick over overtime pay. Officials warned a critical point could trigger aid from the Ohio National Guard or Patrol as security dipped to about one third staffing. Starting pay for guards is $2.76 per hour.
Gov. John J. Gilligan testified before the Joint Economic Committee that Nixon’s revenue sharing faces slim odds in Congress. He proposed a tax credit program as a better option, arguing it would more effectively aid states without forcing new tax hikes. He noted the administration’s plan would require higher taxes to authorize funds.

Several witnesses including Richard Williams described a low flying, winged object near Willard Friday night. In Rosemead California Daryl Scott Anness age two remains in critical condition with brain hemorrhage and multiple cigarette burns. His mother Julie Ann Anness and a male friend Richard Wise were booked on Saturday on suspicion of child beating after they took the unconscious boy to County USC Medical Center.
Phnom Penh remains on full alert after three nights of Communist terrorism. An annex to the electric power offices was blown up injuring six, with fighting near the city and a key government outpost on the Tonle Sap River falling to the Communists.
The FTC proposed mandatory water pollution warnings on phosphate detergent ads and packages. Consumer advocate Ralph Nader praised the move as a cigarette warning style. The Soap and Detergent Association opposed it, saying the rule raises doubts and is misleading.
