Dance Brawl Injures Police in Cleveland City Fight

Teens sparked a Sunday night melee at a dance prompting six patrols and 250 to 300 youths to be sent home. Two Cleveland officers and another patrolman were injured in the disturbances.

Vocational School Plan Moves Forward After Unified Vote

Area school officials from 13 districts voted unanimously to redraft and develop a revised EHOVE Vocational School District plan. The group met in the Erie County Board of Education offices in Sandusky and appointed a committee to review the proposal.

Police Chief Chapin Resigns Plans To Retire

Norwalk police chief Ray A. Chapin will retire April 1 after 12 1/2 years as chief and nearly 24 years with the department. He informed the City Board of Control in a letter dated Oct 1, with Mayor Harold E. Finch releasing the letter today.

Air India Plane Crash Kills 118 on Mont Blanc

A Air India Boeing 707 with 118 aboard crashed on Mont Blanc in heavy snow near Geneva. Debris scattered. no survivors reported. Passengers included Europeans and Indians. eight were bound for New York and one believed to be Dr. Homi Bhabha. Flight had stopped in New Delhi and Beirut and vanished from radar 20 minutes from Geneva.

Norwalk Gets 4.5 Inches Of Snow For First Winter Batch

Norwalk woke to 4 1/2 inches of snow on Sunday causing plows to operate from 9 Saturday night to 4 a.m. Sunday. Salt and cinders crews used 25 to 30 tons of salt and a couple loads of cinders. Two minor fender benders occurred locally while nine accidents were reported by State Patrol elsewhere. Temperature dropped to 3 degrees below zero.

Pittsburgh Man Goes On Trial

Eric Lewis 32 of Pittsburgh faced a breaking and entering charge in Huron County Common Pleas Court. A jury was impaneled before noon. Indicted January 13, he and Virginia Cotton were arrested August 7 in Medina County after allegedly throwing a rock through a window at the Winton Meeker home on Route 18 five miles east of Norwalk. Cotton, charged with aiding and abetting, is out on bond.

Johnson seeks record 112.8 billion budget for 1967

President Johnson delivered a record 112.8 billion dollar federal budget to Congress, citing Viet Nam costs and world tensions. A 58.3 billion defense budget backs rising war expenses and military buildup including a second nuclear powered carrier and an intercontinental missile with a better warhead. He pledged flexibility to shift funds to Great Society programs if peace in Viet Nam prevails, or raise military spending and taxes if hostilities widen. Treasury officials project a 1.9 percent cost of living rise in 1966.
