Senator George Aiken accuses the Johnson Administration of deceiving Americans and undermining U S credibility abroad by claiming the United States fights worldwide Communism in Vietnam. He spoke on the Senate floor at the Capitol.
The Huron County Bar Association may prosecute anti poverty worker George Hayduk for practicing law without a license after he spoke at a Norwalk hearing on support payments for Joe Clark. Judge Vetter ordered the transcript to the bar association and urged action. Clark appeared for support payments. Hayduk claimed to testify as a friend.
Executives of a discount department store chain are evaluating an eight acre Milan Avenue tract, formerly housing the Kroger and Super X Drug Store, for a 30,000 square foot store. The land was sold Jan 1 by Norwalk Shoppers Square to Norwalk Mall Corp, a Warren, Michigan firm led by Donald L. Guarnieri, who said a store may not be built for four to five years.
Jimmy Dudley said he was fired Friday by the Cleveland Indians and radio station WERE after a long tenure starting in 1948. He learned of the move in a Tucson Arizona phone call from Indians GM Gabe Paul and WERE GM Harry Dennis describing it as a kick in the teeth.
Senator John O. Pastore of Rhode Island, 60, is confined to Bethesda Naval Hospital after chest pains. Doctors diagnosed a mild heart attack and ordered him to stay. In Cape Town, Dr Philip Blaiberg, 58, became the longest surviving heart transplant recipient, surpassing Louis Washkansky.
Columbus reports nearly 71 percent of Ohio interstates open to traffic. Highway Director P E Masheter said 206 miles of 1530 are under construction, plans for 241 more are being completed, and slightly more than 1,000 miles have been completed.
UPI reports a Communist rocket attack at a major Pleiku headquarters complex in central Vietnam. One rocket struck a ward of the 71st Medical Evacuation Hospital, wounding 10 American wounded soldiers and killing a South Vietnamese patient.

President Johnson selected Clark M. Clifford, 61, Washington lawyer and longtime adviser to Kennedy and Truman, to head the defense department replacing Robert S. McNamara. Clifford’s nomination drew swift Capitol Hill support with praise from Sen. Fulbright, who called it an outstanding appointment. Clifford said the job ends his campaign role and he would serve as an outside adviser if possible.
