Grasshopper plague relief and early Norwalk aviation note
In 1874 a drought and grasshopper plague devastated Kansas and Nebraska prompting letters to many counties for relief. Huron County raised funds and goods led by Dr. Allen White of Kansas and local clergy, with Norwalk distributing supplies and establishing a relief HQ. A 1843 affidavit hints at an early flying machine project by Hallet Gallup, long before the Wright brothers, tested by locals in Norwalk.
