Nevada income tops when living costs included

A private study by the National Center for Economic Alternatives challenges the view that Alaska earns more. After adjusting for living costs, Nevada leads per capita income while Alaska drops to 20th. The report notes regional price differences in essentials like food, energy, housing, and health care drive rankings, with the South gaining and Mississippi lagging. New York falls to 27th in real income, Massachusetts to 37th, and New England states all drop when costs are considered.

Wealth Chart ranks states by adjusted per capita income

Washington reports a UPI summary of a Wealth Chart by the National Center for Economic Alternatives. The list ranks states by cost of living adjusted per capita income, showing each state’s adjusted and unadjusted figures, with Illinois and California among the early entries and Mississippi and Maine toward the bottom. The data include state positions, raw income amounts, and adjustments across 50 states.

Weather and life notices from Norwalk area January 8 1979

Partly cloudy tonight with a low near zero and increasing clouds Tuesday with a chance of snow late day and highs near 20. Winds west to northwest 10 to 20 today, southwesterly tonight. Extended: daily chances of snow with highs in the 20s and teens at night. Also marriage licenses births and deaths notices for Norwalk area plus a 1978 tally noting 23,000 whales killed for fertilizer dog food margarine and soap.

Snow Linked To Fatal Four Injuries On Area Roads

A deadly crash on the Ohio Turnpike near Gate 7 and several weather related incidents marked a snowy Sunday in the Norwalk area. Rebecca Maitland, 36, of Toledo, died after her van struck a guardrail and was thrown through the windshield. Two of her brothers-in-law from Brooklyn were injured, with teenagers Douglas Schock and Robert Avila hospitalized after a snowmobile collision with a car driven by Mark Logan. Police reported many fender benders, a snow ban in Norwalk, and plows clearing roads as officials confirmed improved conditions by noon.

Explosion Rips Through Bantry Tanker Betelgeuse

A twin blast shattered the French supertanker Betelgeuse docked at Ireland’s Whiddy Island terminal near Bantry. Forty-nine dead include 42 crew and seven dock workers as flames leapt 600 feet high. Rescue teams recovered nine bodies by late morning amid a spreading oil slick threatening the vast storage complex.

Carabin Named President Of Huron County Board Of Commissioners

Norwalk insurance agent Thomas Carabin, a Republican, was named president of the Huron County Board of Commissioners at the annual organizational meeting. The board also named Maurice Smith vice president for 1979, reappointed Dorothy Meyers as interim treasurer, and re elected Richard Hauser as president of the Board of Control. The committee will select a new treasurer Tuesday plus re hire staff for 1979 including Edward Still as county administrator and Chris Keller as secretary.
