Johnny Keane Dies at 55 After Heart Attack in Houston

Johnny Keane, the mild mannered baseball manager who led the St. Louis Cardinals to the 1964 World Series title and later resigned, died Friday night in Houston at age 55. He suffered a heart attack about 11 30 pm EST and died almost immediately.

Fire kills three children on Ohio farm. others hurt

In Ravenna near here three Moss children aged 12 6 and 2 died in a rural farm home blaze. Parents Phil and wife suffered third degree burns and Joyce Ann 11 was injured. All four in fair condition at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Bomb Wrecks Vegas Motel Killing Six in Blast

An amateur bomb blew apart the Orbit Inn Motel on Fremont Street in Las Vegas early today, killing six and injuring at least a dozen. Deputy District Attorney George Franklin called it a clearly amateur job as investigators sift debris from the second floor of the three story U shaped 73 unit motel. Burglar alarms nearby also sounded as police and fire crews collected bodies in bags amid the wreckage.

Reports from Peking describe a violent power struggle in China as Red Guards clash with supporters of Mao Tse Tung. At least 54 killed and 900 injured, with 500 seriously hurt in Kiangsu province, amid a push by authorities to arrest thousands since January 3.

It's Official Firelands Branch Named for New BG University Center

Bowling Green University trustees approve the official name Firelands Branch for the Erie Huron Ottawa Counties center. The Firelands name honors the Revolutionary War land grant area. Theodore D. Wakefield helped promote the idea and fundraising. Approval also comes from the State Board of Regents.

Countess Kept Title A Secret in Midwestern Home

WICKLIFFE Ohio UPI Mrs Irene Gereby long viewed as a plain neighbor died revealing she was a Hungarian countess. Her father Count Fidel Palffy once a high Hungarian official was executed by the Communists. The Palffy family fled to Germany then to America in 1951. Her six children inherit titles. Survivors include her mother Countess Irene Palffy of Montreal and two sisters who are countesses.

Hourly employees of Local Union 28 at Barre Rubber Products Co struck at 12 30 p m Friday but were to return Sunday after management and union officials resolved differences. The walkout arose from a grievance procedures dispute and workers will resume shifts starting 11 p m Sunday.

Incumbent Republican Richard E. Cunningham and Democrat Raymond Smith have filed petitions for the Fourth Ward city council seat. Smith, 41, has previously run for clerk of courts and has been presiding judge in precinct 4-C. he and his family live at 86 Newton St. Democrat Charles J. Hipp, Norwalk city auditor, has also filed petitions and is finishing his first term after election in 1963.

Bartenders Face Charge in Juvenile Delinquency Cases

Two area bartenders face charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Eugene Gordy of Clarksfield Tavern and Frank Robinson of Willard are set for trial in Huron County Juvenile Court next week on disputed evidence with juries. Judge Russell T. Antrim will preside.
