Michael J. Quill and eight other TWU and Amalgamated Transit Union officers were arrested in the Americana Hotel. Quill refused to call off the subway bus strike, declaring defiance of the judge.
Columbus UPI War ren C Nelson urged a state law mandating seat belt installation and use in all cars to prevent Christmas and New Year traffic tolls. He urged drivers to install belts and wear them while driving. Shelby UPI Local 3057 United Steel Workers striked Copperweld Steel Co Ohio Seamless Tube Division after a 49 vote margin rejected a two year contract on Dec 31.

On Board A C Rough Jr president of a Sandusky area dairy is named one of three members to the Milk Sanitation Board by State Health Director Emmett W Arnold and approved by Governor James A Rhodes. Rough is president of Esmond Dairy Co. of Sandusky.
A UPI report says the unionized faculty began a strike at St John’s University Queens and Brooklyn campuses at 6 30 a m local time after Christmas break and a one day postponement. About one third of faculty expected to join with 40 pickets Jamaica campus and a dozen at Brooklyn campus.
