Two brothers aged 11 and 13 were wounded by a .45 caliber bullet fired from an automatic pistol by a 12 year old, Charles Sorrell. They remain in fairly good condition at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital. Guardians are Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Plue. The shooting occurred at the Plue home before 3 p.m. while the Plues were away visiting Berlin Heights. The boys said they were playing cops and robbers.
Deputies described Charles Sorrell as dry firing a pistol before firing a shell that struck Charles Feigs in the left cheek and exited behind his left ear. John was hit on the left mouth side, spitting out a bullet and teeth. Sorrell fled to nearby home before deputies arrived. The boys took two pistols from an unlocked gun rack in the Plue home, which held seven rifles and three pistols.
In Kansas City a 29 year old man Obie Williams steadied a flame filled window rescuing four children as they fell from a smoke filled third floor. He failed to save a fifth child while others escaped. A man elsewhere in the building died and sixteen people were injured.
