Environment and Nutrition May Affect Cleft Lip Recurrence
Johns Hopkins researchers led by Dr. Jennifer Niebyl study environmental and metabolic factors that could raise the risk of a cleft lip appearing in a subsequent pregnancy. The two year, $300,000 grant project tests vitamin status thyroid and liver function and records maternal exposures to chemicals or anesthetics. The effort aims to enroll nine more pregnant women to reach twenty in total.
