Norwalk faces a push to streamline government as the Chamber of Commerce urges a charter change. City Hall, long slow to plan, may cede leadership to private interests unless voters authorize a charter commission to propose a new system.
Monroeville educators vote to raise substitute teachers pay to 20 dollars a day from 16.50 after a Friday board meeting. The district also hires a new clerk and secretary, Mrs. Paul Brown, at 4200 dollars annually, and Miss Juanita I. Leiby as part time teacher.
Mostly sunny and very cold today with highs 8 to 15. Tonight remains fair and frigid with lows from 3 above to 10 below. Sunday brings sunny skies and a milder high near 22 while Friday’s low hovers around minus 1. Births report two boys and two girls born to local families. Death notices include Carl W. Kuhn 46 Loren F. Myers 71 Goldie Plumb 79 Charles F. Bomb 57 and Mary Esther Zook 59.
New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison announced his private investigation fund and a unit named Truth of Consequences to pursue the Kennedy assassination. He said arrests could take 30 to 40 years and Ferrie’s death would not halt proceedings, while officials nationwide met skepticism and cautious interest.
Washington reports that the Johnson administration will not suspend air strikes until Hanoi offers substantial de escalation. Defense Secretary McNamara and Secretary Rusk agree on bombing policy, while Gen Maxwell D Taylor warns a halt would be a mistake unless it precedes genuine de escalation and peace talks.

Architects from Visnapuu and Gaede of Cleveland met with the state architect Friday to receive final approval of rendering for the Firelands Branch buildings. Details remain under consideration and will be released next week. Estimated total cost is 2.8 million with 1.8 million pledged by the state.
A multi vehicle chain collision on U.S. 20 west of Wakeman blocked traffic for 20 minutes Friday morning. Four cars were involved with no serious injuries. several occupants sustained minor injuries and citations were issued to Opitz, Mrs. Irelan, and Watkins.
Negotiations between Pioneer Rubber Co and United Rubber Workers Local 804 are set to resume Thursday in Willard. Notices of hearing on contempt of court were served on union members by Huron County sheriff’s deputies. The company alleges pickets violated a restraining order issued by Judge Robert J. Vetter. This marks the second contempt filing since a Jan 25 walkout, with earlier hearings delayed due to ongoing talks.
Helen Marie Meade of Sandusky was sentenced in Huron County Common Pleas to six months in the Toledo House of Correction and a 500 dollar fine for a fatal November 19 1966 accident. Three year license revocation and a no contest plea were part of the outcome. Leo Charles Maschari died in the crash.
Mrs Ruth Ann Kramer seeks 140000 for medical costs and lost wages after a Feb 26 1965 rear end collision in which a station wagon driven by Jeanne Frank struck the Kramer jeep with snow plow. Ronald Kramer seeks 20950 in a secondary suit in Huron County Common Pleas Court.
