UPI reports James Surface Skimmers plan a fleet of air cushioned frigates to deter Soviet submarine packs in Atlantic lanes with first ships expected to be delivered to the US Navy by mid 1982. Roy McLeavy notes it boosts Western defense morale.
The United Steelworkers Union tunes up a long list of demands for contract negotiations with ten major steelmakers. Negotiations begin as the current agreement for roughly 340,000 basic steel workers expires July 31.
