President Nixon had his twice postponed checkup at Bethesda Naval Medical Center before a Florida trip with several South region speaking engagements. He joked about the exam and blood pressure saying he has done it for 60 years.
A Center for Public Financing of Elections study based on GAO reports shows Nixon's campaign committees held 3.6 million dollars at the start of 1974, the largest among nearly all 1972 presidential contenders. McGovern committees held 469,442 dollars, second on the list.
Former U S Attorney General Elliot L Richardson told Ohio University students Nixon should have invited competing points of view in difficult Watergate judgments. He described Nixon as defensive and said his Watergate response showed an embattled approach to the presidency.
The Postal Service recovered a presidential subpoena routed by surface mail and delivered after delay. White House officials had said Nixon would respectfully decline testimony at the California trial of three alleged White House plumbers.

A 50-ton semi driver struck 60 picketing tradesmen in Lansing Michigan on Tuesday injuring nine, two seriously. Jerry Heiden age 25 suffered the most severe injuries being crushed between the cab and a parked truck. A UPI telephoto illustrates the scene.
Willard Police Sgt Glenn Seiple is named chief to replace Jack L Fryman who resigned Feb 1. City Manager Michael G Orenic announced the appointment, pending Willard City Council approval on Feb 19 with a Feb 20 effective date. Seiple has 13 years with the department and has served as acting chief.
Willard city officials say Michael Orenic met Wayne Goodsite in the mayor’s office and denied calling the mayor stupid or on the take. Reporters present and WLKR quotes sparked a tense exchange over a real estate to mayor transition and a later claim by Goodsite that he will take no action.
Rep. John M. Ashbrook denounces a proposed 23 percent increase for federal officials including Congress members and cabinet level executives. He notes 1969 opposition and predicts 1976 salaries would reach 52 726 for Congressmen, urging rejection of the raise.
Larry Hartzell, 20, of Bellevue, faced a jury in Common Pleas Court on charges of selling marijuana to undercover agent James Parsittie on June 29. Hartzell denied the accusation and testified he did not know where he was that day.
The Park Commission meets at thirty minutes past tonight at City Hall in Newark.
