County Clerk Roger Novy says couples who appear at his office before 10 am on Valentine’s Day can buy marriage licenses for 5 dollars each, while after 10 am the price rises to 2.50. In Wisconsin, the bargain offers a quick, affordable option for couples planning nuptials.
In San Antonio 16 000 trainees are confined to quarters as meningitis tightens security. One airman died at Lackland AFB and two others were killed elsewhere. The base relocates operations 500 miles north to escape the outbreak.
US 1st Cavalry Division fighters clashed with a North Vietnamese company about 285 miles northeast of Saigon during Operation Eagle's Claw. Reports said 65 NVA killed on the battlefield with 45 dead in the enemy unit. US helicopter and air strikes followed with significant Viet Cong losses.
President Johnson says he agrees with officials against full escalation yet sees an inevitable rise in U.S. troops in Vietnam. He told a surprise news conference that there are no signs of peace and additional soldiers will be supplied as Westmoreland requests, while noting no one wants to escalate or surrender.
Gov James A. Rhodes oversaw a nine hour negotiating session that settled a four week strike at Cambridge Glass Co. State Development Director Fred P. Neuenschwander welcomed Hilltopper Mobile Homes Corp to Ohio at groundbreaking in Bethesda Belmont County. Clifton Bischner of Bremen Ind said the 26,000 square foot plant will cost 500000 dollars to build and start with 75 production workers.

Huron and Ashland County officers recovered large quantities of stolen merchandise from a 24-year-old parolee Harry Shreve and two juveniles. Items such as typewriters tape recorders and tools were found in two Clarksfield Township homes and an abandoned building. A 250 pound safe stolen from a Seneca County school held $309. A former girlfriend surrendered more items and Shreve claimed most burglaries targeted schools.
Norwalk police investigated two break ins this morning at P H Fulstow Co Inc 19 21 S Linwood and Hart Advertising 69 75 E Seminary A south door window was broken at Fulstow and five guns were found elsewhere along Linwood A hand power saw and petty cash were taken at Hart Advertising as entry appeared made through a west side window Police believe burglars may have been scared away and details remain incomplete Local stores were not yet identified as victims in full.
More than 1000 teens attended a Friday night dance at the Cussins and Fearns Building in Sandusky sponsored by local students from Sandusky and St. Marys to raise funds for the campus branch of Bowling Green University. AMVETS Post 17 in Sandusky received a $1000 pledge and Ebenezer Baptist Church donated $1500 as part of a drive to raise $600,000 across Huron Erie and Ottawa Counties to qualify for a $1.8 allocation by the State Board of Regents.
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey reported tremendous progress on the military front in Vietnam but said only a beginning has been made on the social front. He described Allied forces as on the ascendency and offensive and urged maintaining momentum after visiting U.S., Korean, Australian, and New Zealand units in Saigon and the field.
