Norwalk Patrolman Receives State Certificate of Appreciation

Patrolman Donald C. Lay was named Norwalk post patrolman of the year for 1966 and received the Ohio State Highway Patrol Certificate of Appreciation from Capt. J. J. Fallencamp. Lay, seven years on the force, was honored for accident and criminal investigation, enforcement actions, and public contacts.

Richer by 175000 for Norwalk bypass land

Huron County commissioners and the State Highway Department approve 175000 as payment for right of way for the Norwalk bypass. The 38.33 acre tract lies at the county home along Route 250 South, paralleling South Norwalk Road and fronting Route 250. The settlement followed ongoing negotiations and a Thursday resolution.

Gary Butler, Perkins Township Constable, described a bluish disk shaped object with red lights seen south of the NASA Plum Brook Installation. He stood patrol alone, lacked a camera, shined a spotlight but could not illuminate it, and reported a landing attempt south of a bridge on Sheink Road before a search found no trace.

Oil Heater Explodes Guts Berlin Heights Home

Fire gutted the Berlinville residence of Glenn Hoag when a space heater exploded. Neighbors and emergency crews from Berlin Heights Milan and Town responded after a late call. The house, uninsurable, suffered a loss estimated at 4000 to 5000 with the roof catching fire again after initial suppression.

Norwalk Teachers and Board Near New Pay Scale Agreement

Norwalk teachers and the city board of education are close to agreeing on a new salary schedule. Dr. William Holman announced after sessions with the Norwalk Teachers Association. A full proposal will be presented at the regular board meeting Tuesday night with details released at that time.

School Bus Involved In Minor Accident Near Bronson School

Norwalk area reports three separate minor crashes including a school bus and a mailbox on Townline Road. Bus driver Eugene Pflieger, William Hettenbaugh, and Paul Weiss Jr. cited or charged. no injuries reported.

Green trucker causes crash at station pole

An inexperienced driver, Thomas W. Osborn of Montpelier, rented a truck and struck a light pole at Certified Station 250 West Main Street. He told police he was not used to the vehicle and forgot it was larger than a car. The pole supported a florescent light and wind shield cleaning equipment at the station leased to Edward Argyle.

Trucker Injured When Semi Leaves Route 20

Clifford Trautman of Whittlesey Avenue was injured this morning when his semi driver lost control and left Route 20 a quarter mile east of DeRussey Road, clipping a telephone pole.

Railroaders Back Rubber Workers Strike At Pioneer

A Willard based union of Baltimore and Ohio Railroad workers pledged support for the United Rubber Workers on strike against the Pioneer Rubber Co. The System Federation No 21 of the Federated Shop Crafts, in a statement by Russell E McDowell, said it would provide money and manpower if needed to aid the strike.
