Rescue of Downed Vietnam Pilot Ends in Tree Landing

Capt. Larry Mahaffey, a Norwalk native and F 105 Thunderjet pilot, was shot down near Vinh North Vietnam on Christmas Eve. Rescue crews from the Air Force 3rd Aerospace Recovery Group located him after he parachuted, landed on a tree limb amid heavy ground fire, and guided by flares.

Senate set to vote on repeal of Taft-Hartley section 14B

Protest Over Bragg Road Vacation Heard in Huron County

Four farmers from Groton and Lyme protested a proposed vacation of Bragg Road to allow Norfolk and Western Railway to build an electronic classification yard at Bellevue. Robbers Hit Milan Sohio Station at Sandusky South Edge

Two white men in their twenties robbed the Milan Sohio Station at Milan Road and Perkins Avenue. They fled on foot with about 70 dollars after posing as customers and demanding bills. Police described one as 6 feet, 190 to 200 pounds with a sandy beard. the other 5 foot 8, 130 to 140 pounds with dark hair.

BG Branch Pledges Record Total for State Fund Drive

The BG Branch has collected 200,647 in cash contributions and pledge cards as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, 14,000 more than Tuesday. Huron County total 44,760. Erie 144,329. Ottawa 11,558. The drive aims to reach 600,000 across the three counties by March 1 to secure a 1.8 million state allocation.
