President Nixon joined a quiet, eloquent service at the White House to pray for the safe return of the Apollo 14 astronauts. Dr. Jacob A. O. Preus delivered the sermon while Billy Graham sat among the congregation and called the worship a great experience.
Beth Simmons a 17 year old Danville High School senior will represent Ohio at the national Junior Miss Pageant in Mobile Alabama in May. She was selected as Ohio Junior Miss after wowing judges with her drum solo and dance routine.
Government forecasters say retail food prices will rise only slightly in the coming months due to heavy farm supplies. For 1971 as a whole, prices may average 2 to 3 percent above 1970, well below last year’s 5.5 percent jump. Net farm income is expected to decline, the Agriculture Department said in its demand and price situation report.
UPI reports a government inquiry into whether retail stores, credit agencies, police and others invade privacy by using Social Security numbers for tracking people. The numbers were intended to remain secret when programs started in the 1930s.

More than 500 gathered at Norwalk Junior High School to honor Rev. P. J. Garcia and his wife for half a century of guidance. The couple was inducted into Norwalk's Hall of Distinguished Americans, part of a local tribute by the Sesquicentennial Committee.
A fire on Ohio 13 south of the Huron Richland line damaged or destroyed over 26 000 mail pieces from Norwalk Bellevue and Sandusky post offices. Two Norwalk girls 19 year old Nancy Myers and 18 year old Laura Arnold halted the blaze and aided at the scene. The driver Clifford A Barker escaped injury. Fire officials credited the girls and Greenwich fire department with preventing a larger loss. Most damage was to first class mail and registered letters.
U S helicopter gunships and fighter bombers led a 20 000 man South Vietnamese force into Laos to strike Ho Chi Minh Trail bases. Six U S helicopters were shot down and two crewmen were killed. Capt Jasper Sander recalled heavy fire and many Communists in the area. The operation drew international protests and support from allies while North Vietnamese forces faced a moving frontline.
Greg Richards has taken out petitions to run for the city charter commission, bringing the field to four candidates. Richards, living at 14 Marion Drive and a Ford Motor Co. controller in Sandusky, joins Herbert Griffiths and Steve Mullenix plus David R. Power. Filing ends 4 p.m. March 13 with 15 commission seats up for election at the May primary.
Apollo 14 astronauts Shepard Mitchell and Roosa, 161512 miles from Earth, urged world peace as they head toward a planned 4 p.m. EST splashdown in the South Pacific. They carried 109 pounds of rocks from Fra Mauro and showcased space-based manufacturing ideas after a 10 hour rest.
Huron County Commissioners refused to provide funding to the Senior Center for this year. Commissioner Arthur Herner told Rev. Paul Smith the county faces a rough year financially and cannot cover an 1800 deficit after federal support ended. Smith urged community take over and questioned how to join the county budget while noting crafts and charity work by center members.
