UPI reports that some yarn from Pakistan may be infected with anthrax germs. The CPSCs warning cites Tahkies Ltd of Teaneck New Jersey as the distributor. Labels read Rahki Imports Ltd Imported from Pakistan.
Cleveland Planning Commission refused to designate a boulder engraved with graduation years from 1883 as an historic landmark in front of the West Side Multi-Purpose Center. Councilwoman Mary Rose Oakar criticized the decision and vowed to continue the fight. Fellow council member Gerald T. McFaul defended the ruling.

An eight year old Norwalk girl Kimberly Ann Bores was struck while crossing West League Street by a westbound car. The driver remained on scene and provided his information. Police later spoke with James E. Gerken who said the child walked in front of his vehicle and he applied brakes but struck her. Several residents were treated for carbon monoxide exposure after a boiler flue blocked and fumes filled a home on Main Street.
Police dog J C Dillon broke loose from his chain Friday afternoon and bit 15 year old Cheryl Ann Seitz on the ankle. She was treated at Fisher Titus Hospital and received a tetanus shot. The dog is in Huron County Dog Pound for observation and the city may cover medical bills and torn jeans.
December was colder than normal by over ten percent and January more than twenty percent colder, prompting many customer requests to investigate accounts. Columbia Gas reported two fuel-cost adjustments and a new contract adding about ten percent, raising average bills by roughly five dollars.
In Mansfield Ohio a patrolman Michael R Hutchison 30 was fatally shot after a suspect grabbed a gun during a parking lot confrontation over a stolen check. Auxiliary Officer Roger Casler was wounded in the wrist. Three suspects were captured on I 71 south of Richland County.
Eight landlords hold 45 subsidized apartments proposed for a federal rehabilitation program in Norwalk with Douglas Colvin John Packard Richard Mutz and Michael Fegen owning most units. Rentals would be 235 for two beds and 199 for one bed with federal subsidy. Health Commissioner Clarence Ellett objects labeling it a taxpayer rip-off.
