About 5,000 of Cleveland's 6,000 public school teachers cut afternoon classes to press for a $2,000 starting salary raise. While students at four schools broke windows and caused damage, teachers obeyed a union call after the superintendent refused to cancel classes.
Senator Edward M. Kennedy says his survey of young men in Massachusetts found few willing to join an all volunteer army. He denounces the plan as luring poor men's sons to fight rich men's wars and notes only 37 percent volunteered.

Huron County deputies report two men charged with breaking into the Willard American Legion Hall and stealing cigarettes and whiskey. David A. Metcalf aged 22 and Wallace Dill aged 50 pleaded not guilty. They were arrested at their Willard homes Thursday night. Bond for Metcalf set at 2500 cash or 5000 property. Dill’s bond 3500 cash or 7000 property.
