Ohio lawmakers propose offset for Penn Central tax loss

Rep. E W Lampson and Rep. Fred B Hadley drafted a bill to offset about 1 million dollars in local school revenue due to Penn Central unpaid taxes. The plan would remove unpaid real and public utility taxes from the tax duplicate used for state school subsidies and restore any collected amounts to the school fund if paid.

Norwalk Power Plant Wins Safety Contest First

Norwalk power plant placed first in Group D of the American Public Power Association Safety Contest for 1970. Plant Supt. Donald Davis cited 99,717 manhours and 100 to 150 plants in the division while praising safety practices and maintenance foreman Art Reitzel for leading the safety committee. Davis will receive the first place plaque Feb 10 at the 1971 Engineering and Operators Workshop.

Offense Near Laos as U S and Vietnamese Troops Push Border

The U S command said 29 000 troops opened a major offensive in northwest South Vietnam reaching the Laos border. South Vietnamese forces were ready to enter Laos while U S air support backed two large Vietnamese task forces moving toward Cambodia. Lang Vei near the border was described as a potential brain center for future cross border actions. Saigon said the drive met little resistance.

Real estate man and secretary survive crash in snow squall

Kermit F. Price and Johannah Barker, both of Sandusky, were seriously injured when their Piper Apache crashed in a field near the Sheffield Village town hall during a snow squall. They remained in intensive care at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lorain with multiple injuries.
