Police in TIFFIN Ohio resume duties after a two day sickout to press for a 1000 dollar annual pay raise. City Council scheduled to consider higher salaries at tonight’s regular meeting.
In Greenville a fire truck driver stopped to help after steering trouble and found Walter Booher Jr. dead beneath the vehicle. Booher, 42, of Pittsburgh, died on arrival at a hospital. the driver was hospitalized in shock.
Senator George McGovern asked Attorney General Mitchell to probe the firing of FBI agent John F. Shaw over a letter criticizing the FBI. Shaw had written to a John Jay College professor about the bureau. The probe seeks accountability for Shaw's career harm and alleged Hoover interference.
Temperature readings across Ohio hit new lows on February 1 with Toledo at six below zero and Cleveland at seven below. Akron posted minus four while Mansfield minus six Dayton minus one Findlay six below Cincinnati led with one above zero and Columbus at zero as Truman hospital update appears later in Kansas City.

The New York Times reports John B. Connally Jr. received at least 225000 dollars from the Sid W Richardson Foundation while Texas governor. Records show 75000 annual payments in 1965 66 as executor of Richardson estate and foundation officer prior to entering public life.
Republican Richard Garner an auctioneer filed petitions for Norwalk city auditor with the county board of elections. The campaign adds mayoral and council bids, with Marie Doughty entering the mayoral race, two Democrats and several Republicans contesting the May primary. Gardner resides at 64 Elm Street with his wife and two children. Incumbent auditor Charles Hipp is not seeking reelection.
Two balloonists at the St. Paul Winter Carnival were riding at about 50 feet when a downdraft sent their balloon skidding onto White Bear Lake ice. The balloon crushed into a carnival official car. the pilots were tossed free with only minor injuries.

The Huron County Jail will not hold persons charged with misdemeanors by municipalities until further notice. Sheriff John Borgia said there is no room with 30 inmates over the weekend and capacity at 28 male and four female prisoners. No female prisoners are currently held. two male inmates stayed in the women's room. Four misdemeanors were released on own recognizance Saturday to ease the strain.
San Francisco officials plan to designate certain streets as bike routes to encourage bicycle commuters and warn motorists to drive with extra caution. Edward (unnamed) notes the plan aims to shift traffic habits in the city.
