Fire truck driver finds body of volunteer fireman under engine

In Greenville a fire truck driver stopped to help after steering trouble and found Walter Booher Jr. dead beneath the vehicle. Booher, 42, of Pittsburgh, died on arrival at a hospital. the driver was hospitalized in shock.

Inquiry Sought Into Hoover Persecution of Agent Shaw

Senator George McGovern asked Attorney General Mitchell to probe the firing of FBI agent John F. Shaw over a letter criticizing the FBI. Shaw had written to a John Jay College professor about the bureau. The probe seeks accountability for Shaw's career harm and alleged Hoover interference.

Bitter February start sets Ohio temperature records

Temperature readings across Ohio hit new lows on February 1 with Toledo at six below zero and Cleveland at seven below. Auctioneer Files For City Auditor in Norwalk Race

Republican Richard Garner an auctioneer filed petitions for Norwalk city auditor with the county board of elections. Hit and run balloon blamed for winter carnival crash

Two balloonists at the St. Paul Winter Carnival were riding at about 50 feet when a downdraft sent their balloon skidding onto White Bear Lake ice. The balloon crushed into a carnival official car. the pilots were tossed free with only minor injuries.

No Room In Jail Says Sheriff

The Huron County Jail will not hold persons charged with misdemeanors by municipalities until further notice. Sheriff John Borgia said there is no room with 30 inmates over the weekend and capacity at 28 male and four female prisoners. No female prisoners are currently held. two male inmates stayed in the women's room. Four misdemeanors were released on own recognizance Saturday to ease the strain.
