Mayor Finch Bids Farewell From Norwalk Mayor’s Court

Mayor Harold Finch presided for the last time as he handled a busy docket in Norwalk. He fined a speeding defendant, gave a two weekend DWI sentence deferment, and explained a philosophy of teaching youth through lectures and traffic-safety films. He advised successor Wayne Goodsite to use good judgment and compassion while maintaining authority.

New Year Crisis Drains Memorial Lake Reservoirs Droop

The city faces a water emergency as Memorial Lake the largest reservoir is nearly empty due to the drought. A view from the spillway near Old State Road shows the south end of Memorial Lake with the electric plant out of sight and the Upper Reservoir visible to the right.

Norwalk weighs revival of 1931 Harris Avenue well

The Norwalk City Council will consider emergency legislation to authorize Service Director Herbert Krogh to sign a contract with Layne Ohio Co. to drill a new well at Harris Avenue. The old 1931 Harris Ave well, once linked to the Lower Reservoir, fell into disuse after Memorial Lake was built and flooding in 1969 debris and collapse ended its service.

Graham invites editor to kick him in the pants

Evangelist Billy Graham tells Cleveland Press religion editor George Plagent to “kick me in the seat of the pants” when needed as he plans a crusade next summer. He quotes misinterpretation of his remarks on rats and social justice and says he will be more careful. The Reflector will not publish New Year’s Day edition.
