American forces conducted a five day bombing campaign above North Vietnam near the DMZ and reported loss of three U S planes and five crewmen missing. Hanoi claimed many pilots captured as raids ended and North Vietnam tallies downed aircraft.
Pentagon spokesman said North Vietnam refused 900 gift packages for U S prisoners, despite earlier acceptance. officials note refusals occurred before new bombing began. A few earlier packages had been claimed overweight.
Columbus UPI reports Stan Savran news director at WRFD will drink a double shot of 100 proof whiskey every 15 minutes from 7:15 to 9:15 a.m. on New Year’s Eve to discuss alcohol effects with Dr. Phil Wood and a state patrolman supervising.
