In Columbus federal officials opened a six hour Medicaid hearing as only a few of Ohio 984 nursing homes may qualify for medicaid certification by the deadline. It is estimated 6 000 to 7 000 patients will have to accept care at a lower level due to the shortfall.

The United States weighs separate discussions with North Vietnam South Vietnam and Viet Cong on different settlement aspects.
