In New York, Judge Lawrence W. Pierce issued a temporary restraining order directing 16 Vietnam veterans to leave the Statue of Liberty and reopen the monument to the public during normal visiting hours after two days of barricading the site in an antiwar protest.

Dayan Divorced in brief Tel Aviv ceremony

Israel Defense Minister Moshe Dayan and his wife Ruth obtained a divorce in a short ceremony at the home of Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren. Dayan, 56, did not contest the divorce, while Mrs Dayan, 54, called it private and said they would remain friends.

Prisoner Charged In Attempted Jailbreak In Huron County

James W. Cudnik 32 of Twinsburg is charged with attempting to break into a Western Auto store and with receiving stolen property tied to two September break ins. He reportedly helped plan an escape from Huron County Jail using a hacksaw and rope. Deputies continue the jail inquiry and suspect an outside ex-inmate aided the plot.
