Power Firm Bilked Of 5 Million By Meter Tampering

Commonwealth Edison says it has been bilked out of as much as 5 million dollars through a meter rigging scheme. Police have checked thousands of meters since June, with thousands found tampered, most losses arising from commercial users in the Chicago area and surrounding Illinois.

Ohio student leaders press for more higher education funding

Ohio University Student Body President Monroe Slavin announced a statewide lobbying push to secure additional state aid for colleges. He said the 12 state universities will pressure legislators on tuition freezes and the Ohio Board of Regents 1.4 billion dollar request for 1977 79. Slavin noted 83 percent across the board cuts have driven up tuition and fees and urged support for the Rhodes budget plan beginning July 1 1977.

Miracle on 89th Street headline saves Shoemaker family

In Overland Park Kansas a Christmas Eve car crash left Stephanie Shoemaker and her 3 year old daughter Natalie with only minor injuries after their car was struck by a faster vehicle. The grandmother called the incident the miracle on 89th street as the family survived with scratches and bruising.

Boy Saves 2 Lives In Christmas Morning Fire

Thirteen year old Alvin Dye awoke to flames and alerted his mother and a neighbor. Firefighters reported three men escaped a second floor apartment above a nearby grocery store after burglars started the fire causing about nine thousand dollars in damage.
