Battelle develops method to grade Ohio highway patrolmen

Battelle Columbus Laboratories under a 19 797 contract with the Ohio Department of Highway Safety is creating a system to evaluate day to day performance of Ohio s 900 highway patrol troopers. The grading method will compare troopers to a patrol wide norm and will aid management in identifying candidates for supervisory roles. The 90 percent federally funded project was approved by the state Controlling Board after Battelle was selected from four bidders. Lt Walter F. Liddle said the procedure will show troopers how they are performing on the road.
