Monroeville Local School Board of Education authorized clerk Dorothy Miller to borrow from the bond retirement fund through year end and transfer funds to low balance accounts to avoid deficits. The board also discussed rising phone costs, teacher tuberculin testing, substitute hires, and classroom ceiling work.
Western Reserve School fire damage increased to more than 100000 dollars, per an insurance rep at an emergency Board of Education meeting. Construction Co and Wilectric Inc, Norwalk, were authorized to start repairs. Robert Dean Sura and Bernard J Myers face indictments for arson and break-in.
Fire at the David Kegley residence 610 Park St in Willard was extinguished by the Willard Fire Department after about an hour. A hair dryer may have started the upstairs blaze, confined to the bathroom walls and attic with smoke and water damage throughout. Neighbors alerted the department at 7:27 a.m. Both residents were home. Cause under investigation.
Norwalk man Donald P. Bishop 28 of 98 Prospect St faces assault and battery charges after a brutal beating of his estranged wife Vickie at 79A Cline St. He was indicted for felonious assault by a Huron County grand jury and held on a 5000 bond, with possible release on 500 or 10 percent. He allegedly also attacked Arlene M. Smith, 41A Spring St, and kicked a door at Doug Colvin’s apartment complex. Police report injuries to the wife and details of the second assault. Colvin may file small claims over property damage.

About $300 in cash vanished in three related break ins of rural church owned houses. St. Sebastian Catholic Rectory on Bismark Road Sherman Township saw $175 to $200 stolen. Ronald and Nancy Krebs home at 8 N Settlement Road Peru Township, owned by St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, reported $105 stolen. Third break in at St Alphonsus Rectory on 3 N Settlement Road reported by Catherine Raftery with nothing taken. Deputies say the incidents may be connected and the investigation continues.
