Car Driven by Roberts Demolishes Pole and Tree

James Edward Roberts 20 of 3 Water St loses control late yesterday and crashes into a city light pole and a tree in front of 250 Woodlawn Ave. Passenger Mrs Mary Ringle treated for minor injuries. Roberts fined $50 with $40 suspended on condition of paying property damage.

Moonport construction resumes after carpenters withdraw pickets

At Cape Kennedy union Local 1685 ended a protest against nonunion labor and cleared entrances to Merritt Island moon base and Patrick Air Force Base allowing workers to return. In Tiltonsville Ohio, four barges of oil and gasoline caught fire on the Ohio River injuring a 19 year old deckhand who reportedly drowned.

Duke of Windsor recovering after abdominal surgery

Reports from doctors say the Duke of Windsor is jolly talkative and in good shape while recovering from a four inch dacron graft replacement on his main abdominal artery. He has begun taking liquids, including tea, and is improving rapidly.

Fire Razes Francisco Home In South Norwalk

A midnight blaze destroyed the James W. Francisco home on South Norwalk Road leaving five people homeless. Francisco, 77, is in critical condition at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital from smoke inhalation. Firefighters fought the fire to 9 a.m. aided by North Fairfield volunteers who provided a tanker. cause undetermined though kitchen heating equipment was involved.

20 Die in Fire at Maples Convalescent Home

Fire swept through Maples Convalescent Home in Fountaintown Indiana before dawn killing at least 20 elderly residents. Fire crews braved ice on Brandywine Creek for water as flames engulfed the two story white frame building near Indianapolis.

Kent Bridge Collapse In Snowstorm Kills At Least One

A 70 year old bridge over the Cuyahoga River in Kent Ohio gave way in a snowstorm taking a gasoline truck and a car into the water. At least one person died and two schoolboys were injured. Fire crews recovered several bodies and treated many victims as a rest home fire followed the collapse.
