Teamster Leader Critical Of Carter Wage Guidelines
Washington UPI Frank Fitzsimmons president of the Teamsters says Carter's new wage price rules fall short of contract goals as talks with trucking industry begin. He notes pension costs may be excluded from a 7 percent wage cap, jeopardizing real raises for members amid rising prices and taxes. Industry negotiator Counts cautions on adherence, with next session set for Jan 23 and a March 31 contract expiry. Alfred Kahn says interpretations could allow up to 7.3 percent increases but no commitments exist yet.
