Toy Drive On North Side Alarmingly Poor

Jaycees spokesman Mike Haynes called the Tuesday night Toys for Toys drive a lousy effort with four teams visiting the north side but receiving gifts from fewer than 25 homes. Rain did not explain the turn out. volunteers plan another canvass tonight on north and south sides and urge residents to leave porch lights on for toy and money donations to aid Norwalk children.

Evansville basketball team dies in DC-3 crash

A chartered DC-3 carrying the University of Evansville basketball team crashed into a foggy ravine near Cress Regional Airport killing 29 aboard. Only one, Artis Greg Smith, 18, survived to reach a hospital. the team was en route to Nashville for a game.

Judge loses cash in desk drawer theft at Ohio courthouse

Rescuers Save Equipment as Norwalk Creek Floods City

Norwalk Creek overflowed early this morning flooding low areas near East Elm Street. Street department workers rescued a tar spreader from the city ambulance barn as water rose around the barn. Flooding Hits Huron County As Rain Deluges Towns

Heavy rain and melting snow swell Norwalk Creek and Memorial Lake prompting creek overflows and basement flooding in East Elm Street area. Roads near bridges along the Huron River are blocked, sewers back up in New London, buses run late, and residents blame city water levels for worsening floods.

Farmers Circle White House for Break-even Crop Prices

Farmers demanding a break-even price circled the White House with 50 tractors in a predawn protest. In Colorado wheat country they plan nationwide pickets at supermarkets and processors. A roadside Vineland stand hosted a news briefing as 31 states prepared informational pickets. Spokesman Jerry Sweet said the action is informational not to shut down business and called for a nationwide boycott of purchases. Over 400 southern Colorado farmers signed up to participate locally.
