10-Foot Strip Brings Jury Award in Mans field Land Dispute

A Huron County Common Pleas Court jury awarded Frank Beymer Inc. $20,510 for a 10 foot wide land strip sought by the city of Mansfield for Trimble Road improvements. The three hour verdict covered 9260 for land 9850 for damages and 1400 for temporary use. Beymer had asked 30 50 thousand dollars for the parcels involved.

$20,510 were Mansfield City Solicitor Marshall C. Moore tried the case while a Mansfield attorney, Robert K. Roth, served as attorney for the Barbara Wheeler, Mary defendant, Wolfram, and Elton Gates. Jurors were Belva I. Dawson and Muriel Goodwin, Willard Wade C. Monroeville, Elizabeth Ringle Greenwich, and Ed Welch Norwalk.

Truck Fire on Ohio Turnpike Destroys Five Thousand Dollar Load

A truck carrying electrical supplies valued at five thousand dollars burnt out on the Ohio Turnpike nine miles east of the Sandusky Norwalk interchange. The driver Robert N. Kosicky, 39, of Cleveland, reported seeing flames from the back of the vehicle and Berlin Heights firemen extinguished the blaze.

Hampton Gets $ to 50 Years

Phillip Hampton Jr. 20 of Willard was sentenced in Huron County Common Pleas Court to three to 20 years for rape and five to 30 years for breaking and entering. Judges Pincura Wendt and Vetter ordered concurrent terms with Lima State Hospital observation and psychopathic offender adjudication, parole in five years, transfer to the penitentiary soon.

Ohio Council for Education filed 5,953 petitions with 131,249 signatures urging a 1 cent sales tax increase to 4 cents to boost school funding. If not acted on, sponsors may circulate more petitions to place the measure on November 1965 ballots. Cuyahoga County led with 13,000 signatures as opposition from AFL-CIO and others grows.

County Won’t Accept Angela Mahl's Baby

Huron County Welfare Director George Lawrence said the county will refuse to accept the baby girl born 12 weeks ago to Angela Mahl in Washington D C. He noted a Washington letter asking for authority to return the child at the DC Welfare Department’s expense. The child is claimed by Cuyahoga County, where Mahl lived before leaving with nurse operator Eugene Woods last May. the FBI has issued a nationwide alert for Woods.

Congressman Charles A. Mosher and his wife were injured when their car struck a boulder on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near the Somerset interchange. Mrs. Mosher hospitalized with a forehead cut. he sidelined service academy candidate interviews in Sandusky until Monday, Dec. 14.

Norwalk Elementary Schools to Stage Christmas Pageant

705 pupils from five Norwalk schools will re enact the Nativity scene in the Christmas Carol Pageant. Each school presents at 8 p m Thursday with Maplehurst adding a second show at 8 p m Friday. Superintendent Dr Sturgis R Corbin notes about 17 hours have been spent rehearsing at Maplehurst saying the daily effort fits state education guidelines.

Christmas Pageant Limits Focus to Upper Elementary Grades

Participation this year is limited to fourth fifth and sixth grade students as Mozelle Adams Elementary Supervisor explains the change allows every child to take part. Previously students from all six grades were eligible but some were left out as choirs formed from the best voices. Rehearsals have been underway since after Thanksgiving vacation with Nativity roles practicing on stage and others assisting with scenery and costume design. Dress rehearsals begin next week.
