Merv Griffin will be replaced on late night television by feature length films in mid February after announcing a break with CBS-TV. Griffin, whose ratings lagged NBC’s Johnny Carson, ends his show as its New York origin moves to Hollywood and his contract expires.
India orders a full invasion of East Pakistan with air and ground assaults. Pakistani President Yahya Khan vows readiness to die for his country as both sides accuse each other of aggression. Indian defense officials report massive air raids and contacts with Mukti Bahini to overwhelm Pakistani forces.
Susan Yoh 20 a Salvation Army bell ringer was run down by a car after two youths grabbed her kettle outside Pontiac Mall in Clarkston Michigan. She was treated for minor injuries and released. The kettle theft was the first in 28 years enflaming Salvation Army officials.
Police said about 100 people gathered after a memorial service for a black man shot by police for allegedly resisting arrest. Uncontrolled groups roamed the city, breaking two department store windows and causing several downtown stores to close briefly.

A three judge federal panel ruled the Ohio Apportionment Board’s realignment unconstitutional and ordered a satisfactory plan by December 21. The suit, led by Samuel Jordan, cites omissions of Zanesville Springfield and Bowling Green. The panel noted Democratic control and deadlines for publication and candidate filing before the May primary.
Erie Air Service vows name change to Norwalk Air Service and 12 commitments by Dec 15 to keep the Norwalk Huron County Airport franchise. The authority demands financial backing, asset safeguards, inspections, and clear creditor statements, with a Dec 16 meeting to decide whether to reinstate or bid the franchise.
City officials met with attorneys for Royce Shopping Centers and Mr Wiggs Department Stores as they consider building new centers in the Norwalk area. Royce plans a 1 percent million dollar center on U S 20 west of Norwalk with Masons Discount Department Store as major tenant. Wiggs proposes a 12 acre site on U S 250 at the U S 20 bypass on the south side. Both firms discussed annexation and water and electric service. no formal utility applications were filed. Royce has talked with Monroeville about water service, but Monroeville line is inadequate. Annexation is required by both Norwalk and Monroeville to supply water.
The USS command confirms the Chinook troop transport wreckage found on a mountaintop. Twenty eight American soldiers and five crewmen were aboard and all are reported dead. Ground troops reached the site after two days of jungle search near the crash last Sunday.
