Ohio State coach Fred Taylor criticized the team's effort after a 63-55 win over Georgia Tech. Luke Witte fouled out with 4:30 remaining but led OSU scoring with 20 points as the Buckeyes shot 42 percent to begin the season.
Ohio State led 29 25 at halftime as Bob Siekmann fueled a late stretch with two free throws and a jumper to push the margin to 11 at 50 39 with 8 52 left. Dan Gerhard scored 16 points filling in for Allan Hornyak who is sidelined with a bruised heel. Hornyak status unclear. The No 5 Buckeyes open at home Saturday against Oregon.
St. Paul meets Western Reserve in Firelands Conference lidlifter after both teams opened with wins. The Riders rely on Mesenburg and Foster at forwards with Davis at center and Weisenberger at guard while the Flyers count on Magnuson Collins and Barman with Bader at center.

Norwalk GAA volleyball extended its winning streak with a 2-1 set win over Western Reserve. Maria Garza led the Truckers with 14 points, carrying 15-10 15-7 15-1 scores in the three games. Pam Bergstedt added seven for the reserves in a similar two-out-of-three victory 15-3 15-5 15-4 with a Reserve win of 15-4 in game two.
Unbeaten West Chester Community College of Valhalla N Y earned the 1971 N F F club championship trophy. Chairman Vincent Dratty announced the award and said the trophy will be presented to West Chester State at a New York dinner on December 7.
The University of Dayton edged Bowling Green 87 78 in the opener as four sophomores and a junior college transfer started. Donald Smith led with 22 points, J D Grigsby scored 17, and Jack Kill added 13 as Dayton shot 37 percent.
