The Reflector publishes a two section annual Christmas shopping guide in today’s issue. It spans 26 pages with ads from Norwalk area stores and holiday features. In Los Angeles court records widow Mildred Vargas testifies that Juan Abel Vargas kept two homes within ten miles of each other and led a regular life with meals and hours. His death in an auto crash ended a complex, multi wife, multi country liaison with possible additional spouses in Peru and Colombia.
The House passed a major campaign reform bill 373 to 23, curbing election advertising by presidential and congressional candidates. It moves to a House Senate conference with key disputes over contributions limits and equal time repeal.
Royce Shopping Centers, Inc. seeks water service for a proposed 12 acre shopping center between Monroeville and Norwalk. Monroeville Board of Public Affairs cannot act without a formal application as water taps near Trails End Motel limit capacity and annexation may be required for Norwalk service.
Ohio Edison will switch from 34 500 to 69 000 volts this weekend causing at least two and possibly five short interruptions in the northwest city area. Service Director Herbert Krogh said outages may occur Saturday with five minute durations and will affect customers west of Whittlesey Avenue north of Main Street and nearby routes. Industries will be notified by phone and the municipal plant will supply all city power during the transition.
Norwalk’s mobile home trend prompts questions about school costs and tax revenue. Monroeville School Board argues mobile homes generate fewer pupils, but tax income varies with enrollment and state aid. At Westwood Mobile Estates the ratio shows limited school-age children per family, sparking debate on financial impact.
A fifth suspect, Mark W. Straka, 20, of 30 Spring St., was arrested in Norwalk and is linked to three burglaries at Wilcox Machine Co and other sites on U.S. 20 and St. Marys. Formal charges were filed against two others, Houghtlen and Ferguson, with pledges and pleas noted. The case covers about 20 break-ins or attempted burglaries solved by the Huron County Sheriff and Norwalk Police.
