Local draft lottery narrows escape for small boards
Leona M. Weisenberger, head of Huron County Selective Service Board 63, warns that no birthday in the new draft list guarantees escape. With only 70 to 80 men eligible for induction, even a low monthly call could deplete the pool, unlike large cities where end-of-list drafts may offer hope. The state expects about 500 monthly calls statewide next year, though local shares may be as few as one to ten.
