Indians renew Alcatraz protest with mass invasion

In San Francisco 300 to 600 tribal representatives occupy Alcatraz Island in a bid to reclaim the 12 acre rock. A census was started to determine the number of people living on the island as observers report a wide age range from infants to elders involved in the occupation.

Norwalk honors St. Paul as Class A champions

More than 500 figures attended the post season ceremony honoring St. Paul for its second straight undefeated season and 29th win in 30 games under coach Mike Gottfried. The event featured seven major awards including the State Championship Award by George Strode and a Toledo Blade trophy.

Burglars Hit City Tavern And Homes In Local Break-ins

Burglars smashed a window at Ernie's Bar 46 Benedict Ave between 3 15 and 9 a.m. Sunday taking about 300 dollars in money and eight to ten whiskey bottles. A home at 92 S Linwood Ave was entered between Wednesday and Sunday with money and two watches missing worth 125 dollars. A separate break in at 156 Benedict Ave was reported with 200 dollars missing. A broader report notes a White House briefing about a Vietnam atrocity and mentions Lt. Calley. Miss North America pageant results include Sharon Cramer as second runner up and Beverly Forrest as winner.

Architects Cite Old City Home Landmark Restoration Award

The Paul Carpenter family of 54 West Main Street Norwalk received the ninth annual American Institute of Architects award for restoration of the Kimball Wooster Carpenter House. Norwalk Teen Struck on Seminary Street In Critical Condition

A Norwalk youth, 16, Dean Bauman, remains unconscious with a fractured skull at Elyria Memorial Hospital after being hit by a car driven by George Schild on West Seminary Street. Two younger boys witnessed Bauman run from an alley into the street. Schild said he could not avoid the collision.
