Army rule bars Santa Claus transport in Army aircraft

In Heidelberg Germany a UPI report notes U S Army Europe regulation 95-1 para graph 25 section B 3 forbids transporting personnel costumed as Santa Claus in Army aircraft. A spokesman says the rule was issued on orders from the Department of the Army in Washington.

Fall Is Fatal For Area Man in Wyandott

Rochester truck driver Gerald Walton, 57, died after a fall while securing steel on a trailer in Wyandott Michigan. He died at Wyandott General Hospital and the Wayne County medical examiner will rule on the cause of death. Walton served in the European theater during World War II and is survived by his wife Illa, daughter, four grandchildren, and three brothers. Funeral services set for Tuesday at Eastman Funeral Home New London.

Lack Of Money Closes Head Start in Sandusky

Sandusky's Head Start at Ebenezer Baptist Church remains closed due to lack of federal funds. About 70 pre school students face disruption as officials in Chicago delay appropriations, with hopes for a January reopening once funds are released. The program, started in 1965 and run by CAC, is the oldest in the Erie Huron area.

Ohio Education Association Boosts Dues to Fund Defense

The Ohio Education Association approves raising annual dues from 18 to 29 dollars for its 85,000 members to finance a teachers defense fund. The hike could bring in about 900,000 dollars yearly and funds will also support political activity, lobbying, staff expansion, and legal services. Louis Koenig from Oak Hills district is elected president-elect, succeeding in December. Delegates also urge state laws to require professional negotiating procedures for school boards.

Rusk Cancels Thant Meeting at United Nations

United Nations announced a meeting between Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Secretary General Thant was canceled. Rusk planned only a courtesy call and canceled due to Thant's focus on the Cyprus crisis. The move followed a 82 to 0 Senate motion urging Vietnam action.

Arsenal Found at Outlaws Hangout in Columbus Raid

Columbus detectives raided a two story south side hangout of the Outlaws motorcycle club and seized pistols rifles shotguns knives a hand grenade dynamite a stolen police sign and two loaded slips for a submachine gun. Beverly Gibson 23 was charged with marijuana possession and James Strapp 25 with lacking a permit for an M 1 carbine. The raid followed a year long investigation into Outlaws activity locally.

Choppers Reply To Injunction Over Celeryville Track

Principals in the Choppers Motorcycle Club filed an answer to a temporary injunction won by Richmond Township Trustees prohibiting use of a Celeryville motor cycle course. Robert Dean and Mildred A. Crooks deny the trustees’ claims and say the course is not a racetrack as no prizes are awarded.

County Sales Tax Growth in Huron County

State Treasurer John D. Herbert reports Huron County sales tax revenue of 439 655 through Nov 26, up from 390 805 last year. The rise reflects a one percent Ohio tax increase. Erie County totals reach 743 585 this year. For the two week period ending Nov 25 Huron sales total 46 770 versus 36 624 last year.
