Murder Suspect Seen By Psychiatrist In Competency Test

The murder suspect Ronald Young, 23, admitted six times to state mental institutions, was found competent to stand trial after video testimony in Judge Robert Smith's court. Psychiatrist Dr. Frank Miller testified Young is near mentally retarded yet aware of the aggravated murder charge and capable of aiding his defense.

Noske faces no charges in beating death case

CLEVELAND UPI reports Prosecutor Corrigan says Ann Noske will not be charged in the Feb death of Arthur Corrigan’s son. She testified she witnessed her boyfriend Dr Stuart Kutler beat the child. No witnesses or evidence link Noske to the crime.

Liddy Faces $40,000 Fine or Pauper's Oath for Parole

Watergate figure G Gordon Liddy may gain parole on Sept 7 by paying a $40,000 fine or taking a pauper's oath. Philadelphia parole official Joseph Nardoza said Liddy's conduct and record support release, noting no violence and a strong home life.

Ford fires fifth in Ohio job-buying scandal at Ford plant

In Brook Park Ohio a fifth employee linked to a job pay-for-work scheme at Ford's local complex has been fired. The dismissed worker was an official with United Auto Workers Local 1250 until last Friday. Four others were terminated Aug 3 after an undercover security officer exposed the scheme offering plant jobs for as much as 500 dollars. Miami University president Phillip R Shriver urged seniors to pass a literacy test before diploma conferral.

Psychiatrists deem Son of Sam suspect Berkowitz competent

Kings County Hospital psychiatrists reportedly found David Berkowitz mentally competent to stand trial. WPIX TV cited the report but did not reveal its source. The psychiatrists’ finding was delivered to state Supreme Court Justice Gerald Held and will be opened at a Brooklyn hearing.

Taiwanese Little League team visits White House but misses Carter family meet

Taiwan's world champion Little League team visited the White House but could not meet any members of the Carter family due to international politics. John Pyron of McLean, Va., who began organizing international tours, noted the 12 year old Nationalist Chinese players were disappointed they could not greet a family member.

East Hartford siege ends as gunman kills self after 15 hours

Ex convict Frank DeCorleto 34 held police at bay in a 15 hour siege in East Hartford after killing his wife Shioehan 22 and their 4 year old son Frank. Police found the family bodies in their apartment and an arsenal. DeCorleto spoke to police by phone before a tear gas assault. He had warned he would not be taken alive and claimed to have stolen a priceless library silver collection. He had served 10 years of a life sentence for a 1963 slaying.
