Norwalk Wrestlers Triumph At State Fair Arm Competition

Norwalk’s Tom Waugh defeated Dale Hoffman to win the 226-250 pound class at the Ohio State Fair Arm Wrestling event. Waugh, a first-time competitor, battled back from an early loss to claim the title, with teammate Steve Austin placing in the 201-225 class and John Schlachter and Robert Smith also competing across divisions. Denny Dase led the showcase as the event’s veteran host in Cincinnati.

Ohio State Fair attracts 2.6 million amid changes and crowds

The 1977 Ohio State Fair drew just over 2.6 million visitors with Ringling Bros. circus and Bob Hope on site, a 12 day event exceeding 1976 turnout. Officials eyed up to 2.75 million but prices and new charges boosted revenue while attendance on closing day hit about 201,000.

First electricity fed from Davis-Besse reactor in Ohio

The Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station supplied its first electricity to Toledo Edison Co and Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. The initial output was at low power with gradual increases as the reactor reaches full capacity in the coming weeks after beginning operation on August 12.
