Officials Call to End Fuel Adjustment Clause

UPI reports Senator Howard Metzenbaum of Ohio urged the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to abolish the fuel adjustment clause. He argued it replaces rate hearings and lets utilities raise bills, noting Ohio utility profits rose 18 percent from 1976 to 1977 and Cincinnati Gas & Electric profits up 40 percent. Representative William Mallory of Cincinnati supported the call, saying the clause reduces incentives for efficiency and cost control.
