Ex-City Newsman Finds Russia Depressing
Former Norwalk newsman Ed Page recalls a six day stay in the Soviet Union in which he found life there bleak and smiles rare. He visited Siberia and the Red Square while noting Lenin tomb rituals and the pace of work. Page, a 1947 Norwalk High grad, says American papers like the Reflector offer more variety and recalls his time at Stars and Stripes in Tokyo and the Los Angeles papers. He plans to travel again after leaving his job in 1950s touring Russia.
